On the final day of our pilgrimage to Sri Lanka, we participated in the solemn opening of the Alokarama Temple in Matale, which was attended by over thousands of Buddhist high monks, practitioners and devotees. The ceremony began with a parade, led by traditional Sri Lankan Ves dancers.
Following this, Most Venerables and High Monks were led to the base of the stupa for the official unveiling, after which Master Wang was invited to officially 'unlock' the doors to the stupa temple.
A formal ceremony was held in the grounds of the temple, where the Most Venerable Warakagoda Ganonaratana Mahanayaka Thero, of Asgiriya Chapter of Siyamopali Maha Nikayana, Kandy, the abbot of the temple, Ven. Udugama Ratanapala and Master Wang addressed the audience. The Academy was also invited to perform the Lion Dance as part of the opening.
