On 2nd December 2016, the Tasmanian book launch for the 2015 Yearbook of Chinese in Australia was held at the Parliament House of Tasmania.
This significant occasion was witnessed by honoured guests from local, mainland and overseas. It was a privilege to have been joined by renowned Chinese community leader of Australia Dr. Frank Chou OAM, and Editor in Chief of the Yearbook Mr. Xiaoyang Feng.
Other honoured guests included local government representatives, including The Hon. Elise Archer MP, The Hon. Rob Valentine MLC; we were also joined by leaders from two different councils - representative of Lord Mayor of Hobart, Deputy Lord Mayor Ald. Ron Christie, and Southern Midland Council Mayor, Councillor Tony Bisdee. Aside from government and council personnel, we were delighted to be joined by various local Chinese community leaders.
It is amazing the amount of work and time that goes into recording the activities of Chinese in Australia. The 2013 Yearbook had 675,000 words; the 2014 Yearbook had 575,000 words; the 2015 Yearbook had 594,000 words. Three years added together is almost 2 million words!
We thank Madam Speaker the Hon. Elise Archer MP for allowing us to use the Parliament House Long Room for the significant event.
